SMARS Motorcycles to Headline Fantastic Night of Champions at Montgomery Motor Speedway

Moto riders will have a unique challenge… Twin races, and right hand turns

(Montgomery, AL) -- Officials from the Southern Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series and Montgomery Motor Speedway have announced the SMARS Motorcycles will be competing during the speedway's Night of Champions race night on August 10. The format will be unique for the motorcycles this time around. The bikes will race around the half mile in two separate features, one turning the traditional counter-clockwise, while their final feature of the night will be contested going clockwise, turning to the right, instead of the left.

"I am excited to try out this new format for the motorcycles." commented MMS General Manager, Paul Boswell "These guys always put on a good show anywhere they go, and I know throwing a kink in there of making them race the opposite direction around the track will just level up the playing field a bit and give some new guys a shot at winning, as well as providing some unique entertainment for our fans."

One rider who is familiar with victory lane at Montgomery, is Davo Majzun. He looks forward to the new challenge. "I'm glad to be coming back to MMS. My only SMARS win is at this track, and they have awesome fans and facilities. The Twin format should be interesting. Us riders with  a road race background are used to turning right, although most road courses in our area tend to have more lefts than rights. We should also have an advantage over our flat track/dirt riders who only turn left. I expect to see a few mistakes with riders blowing right hand corners."

August 10 is not only about the SMARS Motorcycles, however. It is season championship night for all four of Montgomery's local divisions. We will see how the final points shake out for Open Sportsman, Street Stock, Mini Modified, and Buzz classes at the end of the night. Bobby Reuse has already locked up the Open Sportsman crown, but all of the other classes are wide-open, with 2 or even 3 drivers mathematically alive.

In the Mini Mod division, defending champion Joel Collier looks to repeat, holding down a 54 point lead over Charlie Melvin. With all divisions qualifying Saturday night, there is a slim chance with bad luck for Collier that Melvin could wind up the champ at the end of the night.

It's a similar story in the Buzz division, where Joshua Wood maintains a healthy 59 point lead over Mathew Robbins. Robbins, who missed a race earlier in the year, would need Wood to not be able to start the feature to have a shot at the title.

Street Stock has the closest battle for the championship, with defending champ Joe Bethea Jr only 18 points ahead of Dwayne Wesenberg. All it will take is a win by Wesenberg and Bethea to finish outside the top 3 and Wesenberg could steal the crown away from Bethea.

Saturday, August 10 the grandstands open at 5:00pm, with qualifying for all car divisions at 6:00, and racing begins with Motorcycle heat race at 7:00pm.

Grandstand tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for Senior/Military, $5 for ages 6-12, and 5 and under are FREE.
