Robbins Cruises to FourStar Freightliner 100 Victory at Montgomery

90+ lap green run to finish race with 18 cars

(Montgomery, AL) -- Montgomery's own Hunter Robbins found his way back to victory lane Saturday night, July 13, at Montgomery Motor Speedway in the FourStar Freightliner Pro Late Model 100.

Augie Grill was the fastest in qualifying in the 18 cars field, turning a lap of 18.961 seconds around the Montgomery half-mile. Augie rolled a four on the giant die for the inversion, putting Colt James on the pole for the 100-lap feature.

The race had a hard time getting started, with several spins and incidents in the first few laps, taking out some top competitors such as Bill Bethea III, Spencer Davis, Perry Patino, and Kyle McCallum. After the dust settled and everyone got into a rhythm, the final 90+ laps went caution-free.

During the long green run, Robbins was able to stretch away to a comfortable lead and take the victory. Garrett Jones, making his first career start at Montgomery came from a fifth place starting position to finish second behind Robbins. Justin South rounded out the podium in third.

Augie Grill recovered from an early spin and drove from the back of the field to finish fourth, with Colt James rounding out the top five.

In local action, Bobby Reuse led flag-to-flag take the win in the Open Sportsman division over Joe Bethea Jr, Roger Cain, and Darrell Cawley.

In Street Stock, Cody McCawley took the point from Dwayne Wesenberg on lap 9 and never looked back. McCawley took the win, followed by Wesenberg, David Wood, Adam Freeman, and Billy Ammons.

In Mini-Mod, Joel Collier continued his winning ways, beating Charlie Melvin, Chris Landers, Lee Streetman, and his own Dad, Jack Collier, who rounded out the field.

Joshua Wood extended his points lead in the Buzz division with a victory. Mathew Robbins came up in the runner-up spot, ahead of Cruz Skinner, Floyd Brown, and John Musgrove.

Montgomery Motor Speedway will be back in action on Saturday night, July 27 as we host the X1R Pro Cup Series for the KOMA Unwind 200. The series, formerly known as the Hooter's Pro Cup Series is returning to Montgomery for the first time since 2006, when Shane Huffman took the victory. Also on the schedule for that night are the Street Stock and Buzz divisions.
