Motorcycles Added to May 18 and August 10 Events at MMS
(Montgomery, AL) -- Officials from Montgomery Motor Speedway and the Southern Motorcycle Asphalt Racing Series are proud to announce the addition of the SMARS Motorcycles to the Montgomery Motor Speedway schedule two more times this season.
On April 6, for Montgomery Motor Speedway's season opener, the SMARS Motorcycles put on a great show for the fans, with the largest field of SMARS riders to ever come to Montgomery.
A new track record was set by John Cohorn during the feature, when on lap 10, he turned a lap of 22.645 seconds. Cohorn was riding a bike owned by Rob McClendon, after Cohorn's primary ride had mechanical troubles. McClendon, who allowed Cohorn to borrow his machine out of good sportsmanship, went on to win both the heat and the feature events.
"I'm looking forward to coming back to MMS a few more times this year." said McClendon, who picked up his first feature win at the Montgomery half-mile in April. "We've always had the pace to run up front there, but back luck got me the first few races. Now that I've got that monkey off my back, I'm really looking forward to returning! The track crew are all top notch in my book and really know how to put on a good event."
The series has added two dates at Montgomery to their 2013 schedule. The first being May 18, which will run in conjunction with the 50-lap Da$h 4 Ca$h Modified race. On August 10, the series will return to Montgomery at the speedway's Night of Champions, where championships will be decided among the MMS local divisions.
McClendon, as well as series regulars Davo Majzun, John Cohorn, Van Rayburn, Cameron Joyce, are expected to compete along with nearly a dozen other riders.
The next racing event at Montgomery Motor Speedway is scheduled for April 20. It is the MMS Birthday Bash Twin 60 races for the Pro Late Models, as well as Street Stock, Mini Modified, and Buzz divisions. For more information log on to the speedway's website at www.MontgomerySpeedway.com.
