Pensacola Drivers Claim Top 2 Spots in Montgomery Super Late Model 150 Garvey takes checkers, continues hot streak   (Montgomery, AL) -- It had been two years since the Super Late Models had competed at Montgomery Motor Speedway. The Southern Superstars World Classic in 2010, which was won by Augie Grill was the last Super Late Model race at the half-mile off of Old Selma Road in Montgomery.   Sunday afternoon, the Super Late Model cars and stars returned. Fourteen of the fastest short track stock cars around converged in Montgomery, AL for a 150 lap, $6000 to win spectacle. One of the strongest fields of the year assembled with names like Steven Wallace, Bubba Pollard, Mike Garvey, Augie Grill, Kyle Benjamin, Hunter Robbins, and more.   In Saturday's pole qualifying, Kyle Benjamin set fastest time, backing up his fast performance from practice, with a time of 18.568 seconds. Bubba Pollard was second quickest in qualifying, followed by former Show Me the Money Series champions, John Bolen and Hunter Robbins, and former NASCAR driver Mike Garvey.   The customary die roll resulted in a six-car inversion for Sunday's race. The lucky dog in the die roll was Augie Grill, who was the sixth fastest qualifier. Grill started on the pole and led a majority of the caution-filled race. The race saw a total of 14 caution flags fly, and plenty of bumping, nudging, and excitement.   With just 14 laps to go, it was Senoia's Bubba Pollard who had been closing in on Grill's rear bumper in a battle for the lead, that made contact with Grill in turn one, sending Grill spinning to bring out the race's final caution. As a result of the contact, Pollard was relegated to the rear of the field for the restart.   Mike Garvey inherited the lead and held off fellow Pensacola driver, Logan Boyett for the victory. Pollard and Grill battled side-by-side for the final 14 laps, putting on a clinic of clean, yet aggressive racing, to come home third and fourth respectively. Pollard beat Grill to the line for 3rd by just 35 thousandths of a second. Kyle Benjamin recovered from an earlier wreck and caught the last lucky dog of the race to secure a top five finish.   In Saturday's local division action, Tommy Williams led all 10 laps, holding off hard challenges from Kevin Bennett and Jonathan Goolsby to win the Super Stock/Truck feature.   The Buzz division had their special 35-lap, $300 to win feature. Joshua Wood led all 35 laps, holding off brother Roger Wood Jr to take the apparent victory. Joshua, however, failed post-race technical inspection and was disqualified, handing the win to Roger Wood Jr. Brandon Thornton took second, and a cool $200 in bonus money from Wood Brother's Auto Sales and F&E Sportswear for being the top-finishing out of town car. Floyd Brown took third, with Matthew Robbins fourth, and Truss Bethea Sr. rounded out the top-five.   Prior to the race, Joshua Wood and Floyd Brown were tied for the championship points lead in the Buzz division. The disqualification for Wood, however, has put defending champion Brown alone atop the standings. Roger Wood Jr is only 8 points behind Brown in second. Matthew Robbins finds himself third in the standings, 38 points behind the leader, with just one race left before a champion is crowned.   The Street Stock division saw plenty of action as well with Twin 20 lap races to determine the 2012 season champion. In the first race, Richard Patino led flag-to-flag to claim his first victory of the season over Dwayne Wessenburg, Jason Mayhan, Joe Bethea Jr, and Daniel Jacks.   An inversion of the entire field for the second meant plenty of action. David Wood, making his return to the driver's seat took the win over Daniel Jacks, Joe Bethea Jr, Jason Mayhan, and Dwayne Wessenburg.   The consistent finishes for Bethea earned him the 2012 Street Stock division championship by 41 points over Daniel Jacks. Defending champion, Billy Ammons finished 3rd in the final standings, 63 points back. Jason Mayhan and Richard Patino rounded out the top-five in the 2012 championship battle.   The Mini-Mod division had their largest field of cars in over two years at Montgomery Motor Speedway for their Twin 15 lap races. A total of 10 Mini-Mod cars were on hand. Roger Wood Jr took the win in the first feature, holding off a tough battle from Scott Rice. Jonathan Goolsby, Jeremy Williams, and Chris Landers rounded out the top five.   Wood rolled a 10 on the inversion die for the second race, meaning the entire finishing order of the first race would be inverted for the starting lineup of the second race. Wood started from the rear, along with Rice, and the two battled it out with each other as they came through the field. Wood and Rice traded the lead a couple of times before Wood finally sealed the deal to take his third overall victory of the night. Rice was second, followed by Nick Martin, Chris Landers, and Jonathan Goolsby.   Joel Collier leads the championship standings by just 11 points over Scott Rice going in the final race on September 15. Chris Landers is third, 15 markers behind Collier's lead. Roger Wood Jr and Ashley Bridgemon round out the top five in Mini-Mod points.   Racing at Montgomery Motor Speedway will return in two weeks, September 15-16 for the 48th Annual Alabama 200. Saturday, September 15 will be the FourStar Freightliner Street Stock 100, along with action in the Buzz, Mini-Mod, Super Stock/Truck, and Cuplites. The fans will not want to miss the return of the MOTORCYCLES to the half-mile also on September 15.   September 16 is the 48th Annual Alabama 200, where the Show Me the Money Series will crown a champion. Some of the fastest Pro Late Model drivers in the country will be on hand to compete with your Show Me the Money Series favorites for 200 grueling laps on Sunday afternoon, September 16.   For more information, log on to www.MontgomerySpeedway.com or call the track office at (334) 494-6326.     Super Late Model 150 1. #1 Mike Garvey (Pensacola, FL) 150 laps 2. #11 Logan Boyett (Pensacola, FL) 150 laps 3. #26 Bubba Pollard (Senoia, GA) 150 laps 4. #112 Augie Grill (Hayden, AL) 150 laps 5. #71 Kyle Benjamin (Easley, SC) 150 laps 6. #66 Steven Wallace (Mooresville, NC) 150 laps 7. #16 Brandon Odom (DeFuniak Springs, FL) 150 laps 8. #2 John Bolen (Jasper, AL) 121 laps 9. #14 Ken McFarland (Hoover, AL) 109 laps 10. #11 John Wilkinson III (Hueytown, AL) 75 laps 11. #18 Hunter Robbins (Shorter, AL) 61 laps 12. #29 Allen Karnes (Sharpsburg, GA) 50 laps 13. #3 Chris Serio (Hoover, AL) 49 laps 14. #29 Spencer Davis (Dawsonville, GA) 11 laps   Buzz 35 laps, $300 to win 1. #22 Roger Wood Jr 2. #16 Brandon Thornton * $200 bonus $$$ (Top finishing out of town car, sponsored by Wood Bros Auto Sales and F&E Sportswear) 3. #48 Floyd Brown 4. #36 Matthew Robbins 5. #28 Truss Bethea Sr 6. #82 Blake Wilson 7. #19 Donna Thornton 8. #13 Shannon Johnson 9. #128 Colton Cain 10. #1 Roger Wood Sr 11. #51 Perry Patino 12. #12 Chad Frost DQ #21 Joshua Wood (1)   Street Stock Twin 20's #1 1. #51 Richard Patino 2. #31 Dwayne Wessenburg 3. #8 Jason Mayhan 4. #33 Joe Bethea Jr 5. #1 Daniel Jacks 6. #3 Billy Ammons 7. #24 David Wood 8. #38 Whit Goode 9. #8 Billy Maxie 10. #35 Adam Freeman   Street Stock Twin 20's #2 1. #24 David Wood 2. #1 Daniel Jacks 3. #33 Joe Bethea Jr 4. #8 Jason Mayhan 5. #31 Dwayne Wessenburg 6. #38 Whit Goode 7. #51 Richard Patino 8. #3 Billy Ammons 9. #35 Adam Freeman DNS #8 Billy Maxie   Mini-Mod Twin 15's #1 1. #22 Roger Wood Jr 2. #6 Scott Rice 3. #43 Jonathan Goolsby 4. #27 Jeremy Williams 5. #9 Chris Landers 6. #88 Nick Martin 7. #2 Ashley Bridgemon 8. #71 Joel Collier 9. #2 Ty Armstrong DNS #33 Chase Spradlin   Mini-Mod Twin 15's #2 1. #22 Roger Wood Jr 2. #6 Scott Rice 3. #88 Nick Martin 4. #9 Chris Landers 5. #43 Jonathan Goolsby 6. #71 Joel Collier 7. #27 Jeremy Willians DNS #2 Ashley Bridgemon DNS #2 Ty Armstrong DNS #33 Chase Spradlin   Super Stock/Truck 10 laps 1. #4jr Tommy Williams 2. #79 Kevin Bennet 3. #43 Jonathan Goolsby
